Important safety information
GHK-Cu Topical Cream
Regulatory Status
- GHK-Cu topical therapy is compounded and prepared by licensed 503A compounding pharmacies.
- This product may be categorized as wellness-oriented cosmetic prescribing when clinician-directed—not FDA-approved to treat any disease.
- Patients in the Oat Meds program typically complete telehealth screening and provider approval prior to dispensing.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Due to limited safety data, copper-peptide topical therapies generally should not be used during pregnancy or while nursing unless a specialist directs otherwise.
- Active cancer: Because copper peptides may influence remodeling pathways in tissue, topical GHK-Cu is contraindicated in individuals with active cancer diagnoses or a history of malignancy within recent years unless cleared by a specialist.
- Known hypersensitivity: Do not use with known allergy to GHK-Cu, copper-containing compounds, or peptide vehicle components.
Use with Caution
- Autoimmune or inflammatory dermatoses: Use only under close supervision when autoimmune skin conditions affect the treatment area.
- Severe dermatologic conditions: Active infections or severe eczema at the planned site should be resolved before initiating therapy unless your provider directs otherwise.
- Copper metabolism disorders: Wilson disease and related disorders merit specialist input before topical copper-containing products are used chronically across large surfaces.
- Concurrent topical therapies: Layering corticosteroids, minoxidil, retinoids, or other bioactive topical agents may increase irritation—coordinate timing or spacing per prescriber.
- Systemic absorption: Minimal systemic interactions are anticipated at standard topical dosing, but disclose all prescriptions and OTC topicals nevertheless.
Side Effects
Common, Mild Side Effects
- Localized redness, dryness, or mild itch at application sites.
- Mild dryness or peeling, especially early in therapy.
Rare Serious Adverse Events
- Worsening inflammation not explained by initiation phase.
- Allergic-pattern rash beyond the treated area or difficulty breathing.
Escalation Guidance
- Mild side effects—contact your healthcare provider about spacing product use or moisturizing supports.

Drug Interactions
- Major systemic drug interactions are uncommon with properly applied topical GHK-Cu at typical concentrations.
- Separate application times may reduce stacking irritation with retinoids, steroids, acidic peels, peroxide-containing products, and other peptides.
Provider guidance: Disclose cosmetics, OTC actives, and prescription topicals applied to the same or adjacent zones.
